In DIRE NEED of HELP
Hello everyone ! after three days of reading posts, uninstalling and installing bootcamp and running all different scripts and finally I'm at a dead end.
all videos of 9to5 Mac and rare threads of just macOS
I have a AKiTiO node paired with a gtx 1070
(2017 13" pro)
everything turns on and powers on, if I plug it into bootcamp while in windows it will crash. screen flicker, frozen screen and complete blue and purple dead screens. If I boot it up with it plugged in it will freeze on the windows logo and will keep recycling itself.
for MacOS with a fresh install (Mojave)
when plugged or booted up into it does not recognize the AKiTiO node. and I've been trying to update the firmware if that's the case but the firmware files are in windows. and I rand so many scripts and different ways to get it to work, and when I try to run a script to download the software, it will detect the card and then it will tell me that there is no web drivers available for the card, and so on. sometimes when I unplug it it will tell me that the ogpu was disconnected unsafely but sometimes it doesn't or doesn't even show in the system that its connected, this has been very stressful and any information will help, I tried to look into downgrading but every downgrade guide (shows you how to downgrade through time machine and through recovery for a system that already had high Sierra, but for me I got the MacBook with Mojave so that option is out of the window, finding the osx software and downloading it to downgrade has also been a hassle, again any information will be much appreciated ! THANK YOU!!!!
You have the exact same set up (ok, different enclosure) as I have had in the past. I explain how I set them up in my build guides in my signature but to summarise...
Boot into windows without anything attached. All good? Right...
Plug in eGPU, download drivers and install, Windows may do this itself, you can let it do its thing, you will here plenty of noises and after a while be prompted to restart.
Restart with eGPU unplugged.
Boot into Apple boot loader (hold option) and Select Windows.
The second after you select Windows plug in your eGPU, it should take a bit longer to boot but that was the trick for me.
Alternative EFI Bootloader got round the need for hot plugging for me with an Nvidia card.
Not going to happen until Apple and Nvidia kiss and make up and release drivers... would not hold your breath.
You can’t use GTX 10 series GPUs with Mojave.
You will need to either install High Sierra, or get AMD GPU.
After some hours of fiddling with the drivers, I was able to install High Sierra 10.13.6
I downloaded the script and it recognized the akitio node and the 1070 now.
but it does not utilize my 1070 if I'm making any sense? it doesn't show it on the about but when I dig in the system drivers it shows the 1070 working on my external monitor, but nothing shows on my external monitor and my Mac is still using the iris 640 gt instead of the 1070.
how do I disable the iris 640 gt to use the 1070 ? 😐
Macbnook is now running with the external monitor fine and in the about and systems it shows the 1070 and detects it now... my problem now is that every time I launch something it still uses the intel iris pro instead of my 1070.. any input guys?
Which OS? There are built in options in both windows and macOS to specify which gpu to use.
For macos, find the app in finder, while highlighted press Apple key and “I” key for “get info” then select prefer egpu tick box.
I assume youve exhausted google searches? 😉
Akitio node +1070 is now working with the MacOS 10.13.6
external monitor works with display port, but no apps or games is utilizing the 1070 it is still using the CPU
as you can see in the Screenshot I provided I tried the apply key and "I" but no ogpu checkbox ):
google goes in circles or gives me the posts I have already read, and still no answer. ever tried reading you sigs.. they aren't really guides.. more like benchmarks, and how its working. not really a setup how to informative post for me to follow here.
@skrrrt Ahh yeah, prefer egpu only appeared in 10.14, totally forgot that, sorry! As Mac_editor said, you'll need set-eGPU but I'm wondering something else is going on as as far as I know apps are automatically accelerated when launched on external (or am I wrong there?). Do you have your external set as your primary display?
Oh and none of my builds are for macOS + Nvidia, so no, no help to you.
set ogpu the long link worked, I reset all apps and made all apps config to egpu..
union heaven detected the 1070 but read it as my cpu and benchmarked which is fine by me since its using the 1070.. but the gpugui test still does not recognize my 1070 as well as fort nite :/
