Hi Guys,
I already own a mac mini 2018 and run ubuntu 16.04 on it. On the other side a relative gave me a unused tesla k80 gpu. Question is, how to put everything together ? It's hard to figure out what is possible or not. Is there a box or pcie enclosure to connect this GPU to the mac mini ? Do You guys have some insights on how to do it ? I imagine the drivers shouldn't be a problem as the O.S is a Linux. Thanks for Your help.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

Which kernel version are you running? Newer ones seem to detect Thunderbolt devices/enclosures very well. Take a look at our eGPU enclosure buying guide. Power Delivery from the enclosure is not important because the Mac mini doesn't need it. An enclosure with at least 300W GPU max power should do.

How is Ubuntu running on your 2018 Mac mini? Did the Apple T2 chip present a lot of hurdles during the partition and installation process?

I have seen some user(s) (don't recall where - Twitter or YT) report problems with the storage device, etc. but I think it might be runnable after some tweaking. I would say that T2 is a hurdle in general.

@estebandr Also if I may ask, why Ubuntu 16.04? Wouldn't 18.04 or 18.10 be better?

@mac_editor I wanted to run macOS, Windows, and Linux on the 2018 Mac mini. The plan is to pair a NVMe SSD (via PCIe adapter) with RX 580 eGPU inside the AKiTiO Node Duo. One Thunderbolt 3 cable to provide both upgrades: eGPU and hard drive. It's insane how much Apple wants for internal storage. I got an HP EX920 1TB M.2 SSD for $153 during Black Friday.

@itsage consider using this bootloader. Seems pretty nice. T2 compatibility unknown, but I think it will do just fine (as does the automate-eGPU EFI).

Btw that's a nice deal for a TB worth of SSD. Damn.
