Hey!
My MBP 16'' with 32GB ram & 2 gpu's inside it, is not recognizing the RX580 Gaming Box for some reason.
It is charging, but that's it - USB/DISPLAYS not working.
The gaming box is perfectly working with my 2014 15'' retina on Windows bootcamp, but not on MacOS.
**It's important to note that my 16'' MBP is running the latest MacOS Catalina... :/
Any advice/fix would be greatly appreciated.
There are lots of reports of this issue with this box, the search function should be your first port of call... these may or may not be of use.

It's connecting the USB billboard device. That happens when it can't connect as Thunderbolt. Maybe a problem with the connector or cable.

@dorza, Perform a power reset - unplug the power cable from the outlet and let the Gaming Box stay off for at least 10 minutes before reconnecting it to power.

@joevt, I use original cables, still no eGPU recognition - only charging.

Hey, I've done it several times with no success... maybe the problem is Catalina?
thx
@eightarmedpet, thx for the links but unfortunately my macbook can't seem to recognize the Gaming Box even once so I think it's a bigger issue than connect/disconnect... probably an OS bug (?)
I ran into the same issue about 2 years ago with my macbook pro 2017 13in. And I kind of magically fix it today.
I use a windows laptop with TB3 to update its TB3 firmware to 1.3 ver. Then I took it apart, took the graphic card out, plugged it into a motherboard and updated it's BIOS.
I reassembled it and connected the box to my Mac. It worked !!!
To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.
.@donald_mai, that's amazing! mind explaining how to do it?
I've got a windows machine - how do I update the gaming box?
@dorza, Still don't know what fix it.
u can find all u need here. https://www.gigabyte.com/Graphics-Card/GV-RX580IXEB-8GD/support#support-dl
Updating TB3 firmware is easy. Plug it in ,Run the update program then it should be done with no error.
Updating RX580 VGA BIOS might be a little bit tricky. There are 3 different BIOS for 3 different GDDR manufacturers. Make sure u choose the right BIOS.
