MacOS Monterey Public Beta Questions
Just wondering if anyone can shed light on the following as I am considering testing the Monterey beta…
I had read somewhere that Big Sur contained some firmware that could have an adverse effect on being able to use a thunderbolt egpu properly in Windows 10 bootcamp - I have a 2017 7th Gen i7 iMac. Whether true or not, this made me hold off on Big Sur as my egpu works perfect on Win 10.
Has anyone here tried MacOS Monterey and does anyone here know if it upgrades or flashes anything at the firmware level that could cause issues with egpu operation?
@ac2334, Haven’t seen any reports of either Monterey’s Public Beta or Big Sur releases breaking Bootcamp eGPU support.
Big Sur 11.4 + Windows 20H2 / 21H1 has rock solid eGPU support on my Mac Mini.
@mini-i5, That's great to hear 21H1 is working great with eGPU as well!!
I was sticking closely to Win10 1903 on Bootcamp eGPU setup and accidentally updated to 20H2 at some point... and to my surprise, it worked well -- if not, better than 1903. This gave me hope to try 21H1 or whatever the latest version of Win10 is. I might create a system image and try updating and see how it goes.
Now, for the main post topic, I am currently on the Monterey beta and haven't had any issues with my eGPU setup in Monterey or Bootcamp. As I mentioned, I'm running Win10 20H2 on my 13-inch 2020 MacBook Pro.
@landon, hey, very cool 😎 Thanks for letting everyone know!
When you have a moment to put together a build guide, please post one.
Your success will inspire other members to try Windows 20H2 in Bootcamp with the 13” 2020 MBP 👍🏻
