I tricked the pascal install package into installing in High Sierra but NVIDIA web driver is greyed out in the nvidia driver manager.  It defaults to OSX default driver because it claims the web driver is not compatible.

Do I need to wait until nvidia releases an official high sierra web driver?  This sucks because I could have used the venus with sierra but thought plug and pray would be better with High Sierra.

Hi,

I'm thinking of adding an internal ssd hd for my Mantis Venus, but didn't notice any hd holder or slot inside beside the cable and power.

Anybody having similar setup care to share some info and pictures would be great too.

thank you

I'll be testing a Kaby Lake Blade Stealth with the Mantiz Venus later this week and post the results.

See the egpu.io review here.
You need to take the square black bracket away, screw it to the bottom of your ssd and put it back into place.

@nando4 Thanks for the heads-up.  Any idea as to the reason why?

What does it say at the bottom of https://egpu.io/external-gpu-implementations-table/#perf ?

This 32Gbps-TB3 result requires the correct TB3 enclosure firmware, a 40Gbps TB3 cable & a x4 3.0 hosting  PCIe port . U-CPU systems must be in GT4 OPI mode. FYI: Intel throttles TB3 to 22Gbps.

A HP Spectre x360 has been recorded getting  2266 MiB/s H2D bandwidth, as expected of 32Gbps-TB3,  using an AKiTiO Thunder3 here:
https://www.reddit.com/r/eGPU/comments/5kexaf/hp_spectre_x360_late_2016_model_gtx_1060_6gb_tb3/

@nando4 Im using a RBS Skylake i7-6500U. Can the GT4/GT2 OPI be the problem? Do you know how to check?

Personally I think it is not since the RBS Skylake was meant for eGPU why would Razer put it in GT2 mode

Your 1546MiB/s max CUDA-Z is what the bandwidth x2 3.0 gives. Indeed, you may be capped either as the host port level of at the OPI (DMI) level. The former can be checked with hwinfo64. The latter can be checked by benchmarking a fast PCIe SSD and seeing if the seq read/writes get capped.  See example links at https://egpu.io/forums/pc-setup/skykaby-lake-u-cpu-opi-gt2-half-bandwidth-issue/

You may consider installing your system’s latest BIOS and re-testing the eGPU bandwidth to check for improvement.

We are working with a new FW, submitting to Intel now, it will release in few days later.

Yes, it will be easy, I'll make the update version as the exe file.

Got mine in Japan last week, taed about 25 dollars for it (Japan usually doesnt tax computers, but since this is a component?)

Drive plate was a little hard to remove, so be careful (I stripped one head because they're a little soft.)

One of the "feet" stickers was also no good (the adhesive part was crinkled up so it won't stick properly) Is there a way I can get a replacement strip?

Yes, it fit.. It is a great GPU but i see a problem with the cooler configuration  (Vertical air flow).

This GPU blow hot air on top of the thunderbolt 3 motherboard.

And of course you want to have this board as coolest you can.

That is why my option was a Radeon Shapphire that has a  horizontal air  flow (in my case Nitro + rx580)

Hm .. good information :-/ And which Radeon 580 will be probably best on Venus?
I want try some Radeon setup, and I not want lower chip than 580 🙂 😀

NvidiaOptimus I tested on my friend egpu box
But before come into my home box, so I want be ready and have home Radeon, for test AMDxConnect 🙂 Problem is that in my country is chip 580 in very small numbers in shops 🙁 so I must order few days/weeks before)

I personally picked the Shapphire Nitro + Radeon RX850 8G for 3 reasons:

  1. It is fully compatible with macOS High Sierra Beta
  2. It comes with 2 overlooking profiles by default:  Silence (@ 1340MHz) and Boost (@ 1411Mhz)
  3. It has horizontal air flow

hm so mainly is good for Venus pickup horizontal air flow? Ok.

This model is but in my country very different in price versus asus :-/
asus cost in czech krounds cca 7900 but nitro+ cost cca 11000 (1euro is +- 26krounds)
This is why I want first time pickup Asus, So I look for other R580 with horizontal air flow

SAPPHIRE PULSE Radeon RX 580 OC 8G = 11627,- cca 445 euro
SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 580 8G = 11826,- cca 452 euro
SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 580 Limited Edition 8G = 12222,- cca 468 euro

So is best pickup for money standart version 8G? no LE? When I look so LE have only little higher frek on chip. I not want have card for overclocking, I looking for best 580 chip on Venus in performance versus price.

Hm .. so maybe my choice win "SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 580 8G" 🙂 but if have someone other better tip, is welcome.

That is a very personal decision.. All of them are good GPUs cards to put in a Venus.

Just think for what you are going to use it and which of them will give the best return of investment for you.

Yes. I run a late 2013 macbook pro (Iris pro internal GPU) with mantiz venus + EVGA 1080ti. I only use the card in Windows 10 bootcamp.

R9 Nano is faster than 580. Just make sure that the card is in a good health (test before you buy it - if you can)

Fiji cards are very nice. The R9 Nano is louder because of its single fan. If you can find the R9 Fury, that’s a sweet spot.

So I'm not entirely sure if my setup is 100%. Currently have the 2016 MBP 15" 2.9 RP 460 attached to a Mantiz Venus with a 1080 ti on my front left port. I managed to get the internal display working by using bit and pieces of all the guides on here. Apple_set_os.efi, hotplugging, installing the intel 530 drivers, removing the radeon display drivers, all sorts of fun stuff. Right now the eGPU always aligns itself to the PCIe Controller (x8) 1905 slot. To clear the error 12 once recognized i disabled the facetime camera and the PCIe Controller (x4) 1909 slot but would lose access to my other thunderbolt ports.

So i backtracked and disabled only the PCIe Controller (x16) 1901 slot. Just so i'm making sure that i'm not handicapping myself, is there anyway to get my eGPU to allocate to the x16 controller or is that not a thing. Also pretty sure its a Mantiz problem after reading through the thread but my H2D is around 1411, could that be why? Thanks for your help.

Just wondering if an all in one water cooled 1080 ti's fan and radiator would fit where the Venus's fan is now?

I received mine yesterday and managed to set it up with a RX460 until I can find a suitable upgrade. So far Im quite happy with how it looks and performs although the casing does have some slight scratches here and there (doesn't seem to be from transport).

Currently also looking for ways to improve the cooling and get a replacement fan. What can you suggest me?

I am wondering what style of cooler people are choosing for the GPU's in their systems, reference blower style or more traditional fan styles? Mymantiz_John do you have a recommendation on one style vs the other?

Today finally I received my Venus, unfortunately  I got a surprise..

I found some marks in the aluminium and something broken in the chasis :

Photo3
Photo2
Photo1

Did someone had the same problem?

I tested the USBs, Lan and power delivery and all work fine. I will test it with a GPU on Friday.

@Mymantiz_John How is the RMA process ? (PO#1222)

I'm wondering if you can explain a bit what quality controls you have in the factory. I think that would be great to understand if this is an isolated problem.

Thanks in advance
