Looking at the specifications there's only a max 44m GPU thickness so any GPU with a backplate (like most 1080TI cards) won't fit? So far the only drawback to this product 🙁

we've fitted with the Asus, MSI, EVGA, Elsa, Powercolor, Gigabyte, Zotac  and colorful  ( Max reached to 52mm ) w/o any problems. but spec wise, still keep the standard PCI-e ( GFX standard ) 44mm. any case which is wilder than the 44mm, it really depends on the Fan/Sink design. I ever saw the the monster card but just  1070 had been reached to 55mm w/o any reason ( perhaps just looks cool & powerful , I guess ).

I've tried this RX 580 inside the Mantiz Venus and it fitted. This card has a backplate and the cooler design makes it a 3 slot card. The side vent panel can close too.

Yeah I don't get why a GPU has to look good and have LEDs nowadays, but I figured the extra rigidity offered by a backplate would make transporting it somewhat safer hehe.

Thanks for clarifying tho! I guess MSI's 1080 TI Gaming X would fit then, since its a 51mm card and the form does not seem to deviate too much from the Powercolor card? Either way I'm looking forward to release!

@John

Have you tried 1m/2m active cables? Like Caldigit one?

http://www.caldigit.com/Thunderbolt-3-USB-C-Type-C-Charge-Cable/#Thunderbolt3

40Gb/s but description says active cables doesn't support USB3.0/3.1. What does it mean? Does it change something if used with Venus? I think everything go in Thunderbolt channel so it doesn't care.

Edit: ok so it change something only if you use as a glorified USB-C cable

Passive & Active Cables

Thunderbolt™ 3 cables are in theory backwards compatible with USB 3.1, USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 Type-C devices. Meaning you can use a Thunderbolt™ 3 cable with a USB 3.1 Type-C device. This is the case with CalDigit’s 0.5m Thunderbolt™ 3 cable. However, longer cables such as CalDigit’s 1m and 2m cables require technology within the cable that provides maximum stability over longer lengths. This in turn means that the longer cables do not support USB 3.1 or USB 3.0 backwards compatibility. This is the case with all Thunderbolt™ 3 cables on the market that feature longer lengths.

Ikir there are devices that use usb c connector but they are not tb devices; they are usb 3.1 so, if you use one of those  cables you are going to damage the device because usb 3.1 is a passive standard. (ex. a smartphone, pixel or nexus) Mantis venus is a tb device that has got usb 3.1 and sata integrated connector but it remains a tb device that is able to manage active cables.

Meaning active cables will be officially supported, or that the Venus will ship with one (instead of the 0.5m cable)?

Whats the production plan, and does the order number matter and do the group buyers have them shipped at the same time?

Would you consider doing another group buy? I believe there are bunch of people that were left behind the last one. We're all enthusiastic early adopters here, we would definitely spread the word!

any chance that the EVGA 1080ti Hybrid will fit into the Matiz? What about the power cables?

While the graphics card and its cooling components physically fit inside the enclosure, you would need to mod the left side panel for exhaust air to flow outside.

Modding, like cutting a hole? What about the power pins? EVGA says it needs one 6pin and one 8pin for the card? Does Mantiz have these pins?

If not, what would be the best enclosure for the 1080ti Hybrid? Im really interested in a powerfull but silent eGPU Solution.

Do you know if the Mantis Venus sub-board can be changed to also include another thunderbolt 3 port?

Does anyone know if the sata port supports Sata Port Multipliers?

I'm going to end up getting a Venus well before I put in a graphics card. So for me, its going to live as a fancy Thunderbolt dock for a while, but it brings me closer to my holy grail of one cable that connects everything when my notebook is on the desk.

My plan is to only use the graphics card (someday) under Bootcamp Windows, but to use the SATA, USB, and Ethernet under both MacOS and Windows.

My thought with using a port multiplier is that I can have all my drives in one enclosure (even if I have to modify or replace the Venus enclosure to fit them). It would just provide a tidier setup than a bunch of USB enclosures and power bricks hooked up to it.

My choice would be a "Palit GeForce GTX 1070 Gamerock Premium", unfortunately this is a triple slot card, at least internal ( coolers). Would such a design work with the venus?

Will any of these make it to vendors that are physically in the United States?

I'm thinking maybe Newegg or Amazon or the like?

$80 for shipping is simply staggeringly breathtaking.

Just spotted the black Mantiz Venus... looks awesome!
Will group buy members get the chance to pick this version before deliveries start?

Thank you. Unfortunately the black color is a prototype, we made it for testing the RCA, Hardness, anitscratch, Rusty..etc. It is a certain distance & time to mass production. Space grey will be the next color option we did the test. I'll post it once it is ready.
