Hello eGPU.io

We aim to create a Water Cooled eGPU called THOR I

THOR I TRAILER

    • 270mm x 120mm x 50mm (L-H-W)
  • THOR I dimensions
    • 286mm (11.2") x 187mm (7.3") x 93mm (3.6") (L-H-W)
  • THOR I volume
    • ~ 4.9 Liters
  • THOR I chassi material
    • Aluminum
  • THOR I chassi design
    • Unibody

TO-DO-LIST

  • Get the Thunderbolt 3 certificate from Intel
  • Showcase the first prototype

FUNDING

  • Kickstarter

If you are interested in THOR I, please subscribe to any email list on our website. We never spam, the only emails we send out is when we launch a new product / release a product-trailer. If you have any concerns please let us know, it will teach us which areas of THOR I need improvement.

We also have an upcoming premium mini-ITX ChassiMJOLNIR I. It will be one of the world’s smallest chassis that still fits a full-size GPU. If you are interested in MJOLNIR I, please subscribe to any email list on our website. We never spam.

QUICK COMPANY BACKGROUND

THOR ZONE is a Swedish tech startup. Initial product lineup will be:

  • THOR I - Water Cooled eGPU
  • MJOLNIR I - Premium Mini-ITX Chassi

Our ambition is to create ultra-premium products that are in their own league with regards to design, power and innovation, thus we appreciate all the guidance we can get (your concerns about any aspect of our products are very welcome).

Engineers
  • Emil Blomkvist - Royal Technical School - PHD
  • Adam Brinkman - Chalmers University of Technology - Master's degree
  • Johan Larsson Hörkén - Chalmers University of Technology - Master's degree
  • Oscar Öhlin - Luleå Technical School - Master's degree
  • Måns Lögdlund - Linköpings Universitet - Master's degree
  • Rasmus Claesson - Chalmers University of Technology - Bachelor's degree

Economists
  • Denize Forsman - Högskolan Väst - Bachelor's degree
  • Alexander Baranov (founder and lead developer) - Gothenburg School of Business, Economics and Law - Master's degree (woho that's me, although I'm far more a tech guy than an economist)

We aim to stop depending on Kickstarter after THOR I and MJOLNIR I

HAVE A GREAT DAY

Until when I don't see at least any prototype that works, I will not trust in these messages...

One thing got my attention: about the waterblock- "UNIVERSAL FIT,USE ANY GPU"

My response is: HE HE HE HE HE HE HE

@daniel_tx check out this part from our interview with Level10Gamers, we talk about the universal waterblock and how we plan to do it Smile

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=3739&v=eaXkJ17YJDA

We are here to listen to any advice we can get, so if you have any ideas about how we can improve this waterblock please tell us Smile

@jefniro I'm sad to hear that you dislike the project so much, but I do understand your concern. We will not go to Kickstarter before:

  • We get THOR I certified for Thunderbolt 3
  • Create a fully functional THOR I prototype

We have talked about this project for 5 months now, we must do this because we are startup (basically we need to spread the word or else nobody will know about us or our projects). Also it takes time setting up partnerships with other producers (we need this for the chassi, pcb, fans, etc).

We would love to hear constructive feedback from you, like how something should be improved in our products etc. Such feedback will help us create better stuff.

Once again I’m sorry that you don’t like this, but we understand. We will create a working prototype and then hopefully you can give us a chance.

Have a nice weekend,

Alexander Baranov

Love the look of this eGPU... I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, until I see a prototype at least. Hopefully it wont be another "Wolfe".

@Eightarmedpet We really appreciate it, thank you very much!

Personally, I don’t think a prototype is enough. If it was one could:

  • Buy a Razer Core (or something else with DSL6540C V1.0 PCBA) and take out the PCBA
  • 3D print a prototype -> Investment cast it (also called Precision casting) so we get a prototype of made out of aluminum
  • Put everything together and call it a successfully developed project, then go to Kickstarter

This would basically be illegal because we haven’t gotten Intel permission to use the Thunderbolt 3 chip in our product. So our main priority now is to get that Thunderbolt 3 certification for THOR I. This is a good way to avoid what happened to Wolfie.

We will always be transparent about how we do things, and we want to do it right. Doing it right takes more time, but we are sure that the end results will be worth it Smile

Best,

Alexander

Alexander: 400W PSU simply won't cut it. You are trying to create a premium enclosure, and with water cooling, etc. - meaning you are targeting high end OC-ed GPUs.

Have you thought of power delivery over Thunderbolt?

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

@jefniro Thank you, I really appreciate that you like the renderings Smile Yes you are right, one needs to be very cautious when investing into Kickstarter campaigns. Some scams are due to lack of research (impossible-to-complete campaigns) and others are just plain fraud...unfortunately.

@Sky11 Thanks for the feedback! FSP Group USA has 500W option, so it's definitely a possibility but we want to do proper testing before we invest into these (significantly) more expensive PSUs.

Well we'll most probably use an existing PCBA so power delivery over Thunderbolt very much depends on the manufacturer of the PCBA and which firmware is installed at the time of purchase. But before we can get our hands on such PCBA we have to get Thunderbolt 3 certification from Intel.

We have a question for everybody, which 5050RGB LED strips would you like to see in THOR I? There are so many out there and we have a hard time choosing. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated (we are looking for premium light strips).

Best,
Alexander
