@mac_editor, Here are my results:

In the first image, I am connected to my MacBook Pro 16" via USB-C to Lightning Cable -- it reports it as a 12W charger and around +2.5W charging. In the second image, I've gotten the same results with two different USB-Lightning cables (one of them is completely new) and trying all the front USB ports (the back is currently inaccessible until tomorrow evening) -- there is a negative power draw and it reports the charger as 2W.

 I'll test the back ports tomorrow evening. But this doesn't bode well, sadly.

MacBook Pro 16" - 2.3 i9, 16GB, 1TB, 5500m (I added thermal pads to the VRMs); Mantiz Saturn Pro w/ PowerColor Red Devil 5700 XT (previously, a Gigabyte RX 580 Gaming Box) + LG OLED C9

Hello,

got mine delivered today. Looks like a solid piece, even though I haven't opened it up yet to install the GPU (still waiting for the GPU to arrive).

Now, a few issues I'm encountering: network doesn't work (I have tried to switch to USB LAN in the Network preferences of OSX, but no luck, I'd appreciate some help on settings here whether to use DHCP or other protocols and IP address), as do USB ports, both on front and rear, devices connected to those don't turn on and show up.

Is this because I'm on Mojave (10.14.6)?

Thanx

Hello,

here you go (sorry they are in Italian...)

I'll try to contact supporta s well and see if they can sort this out.

Please screen shot System Report-Thunderbolt. You can always directly contact to our service team via " [email protected] " . and engineer will reach you via any kinda of instant message service.

Didn’t see any EMAIL from you about this issue in our [email protected] account.
I doubt Mojave yet to be with the Lan driver.You can try to update the OS to the latest 10.15.7 ; or  Please try to have this to be installed manually.

Go the bottom of the page, you’ll find MacOS driver for this Lan chip.

@arzen, indeed. The USB issue might indicate that some USB hub manufacturers are likely cheaping out (or have "gotchas" to borrow your terminology) on components, as I did test with a multi-purpose hub which suffered the same issue. Might be worth testing Mantiz Venus.

I would expect such basic things to work. Only a spec needs to be followed. Plus don't see how hard all this is to test when I can whip one up in minutes. Perhaps having so many things in one complicates this, but still unsatisfactory performance. 1.8W is under USB 2.0 spec. Your SuperDrive would actually work fine on a "proper" USB 2.0 port (2.5W - 5V, 0.5A).

We’re going to prove by several testing., HOld onfor a moment,.

looks like I sorted it out: I had it connected to my MacBook Pro using its own thunderbolt cable, that was the problem; using the supplied cable I now have both LAN and USB working as they should.

Only issue is, the supplied cable is too short to connect the Saturn to my MBP as I have them setup on my desk.

Do you have longer cables, like at least 1,5m?

Thanx

@gerax, Thanks for the heads up on using the right cable. Would have done the same.

I'm receiving mine tomorrow, can't wait to test it!

How's the noise level of the PSU / Case fans? On the fence of whether I should get a Noctua fan for it.

well...right now I don't have the GPU installed, so it's moderately quiet, but I guess it will be louder once I put that in (considering the additional fans on the GPU itself.

I'm going to put it in an isolation box which is part of the desk I'm using, so it shouldn't be an issue. I work with audio stuff, so my room has to be as quiet as possible...

@jidey247, got mine today, and can already say noise is moderate, but one of the fans is torture: it keeps turning of an on, and when it's on, it's really noisy and low frequency. Brain goes BRRRR.

I think it's the PSU fan going from 0RPM to very low RPM, as it was mentioned by itsage's on his review.  Will be considering a switch of that fan (or PSU). Overal noise is about comparable to my old HP Omen, but that one was stable on idle, while this one must come up every 5 mins even when idling for an hour.

I think I may have some LAN speed underperformance compared to a Macbook Pro Retina using a USB Realtek Gbit adapter from Anker. I have +400Mbps, and while the Mac reaches those fine without any other load on the network, the Mantiz doesn't seem to go over mid-300's. My Omen with Realtek Gbit did 400 easy. This is in line (or below actually) with what other people have been reporting here. It's a bit sad that, what to me is the 3rd most relevant function of the enclosure (after eGPU and PD), is working under USB 2.0 max speeds. But well, I guess I could just use another USB-LAN instead, since the back USB ports at least are working at 3.0 - just tested Oculus Link on them and they do 1.5Gbps on the Oculus test (with a half-decent cable that does 2.1Gbps on my laptop port). Also looking to do some iperf tests later to make sure I'm not seeing things on the LAN.

The build quality is impressive though, and I'm really glad I got he Silver model. Would have loved if it was a tad more natural stainless steel color, but it's great. I'm really thinking this box deserves some modding but I'll give it some months as is - swapping the PSU and the likes (noise; too much clutter being non-modular, and that Gold certification goes better in an always-on home server anyway). Maybe the fans and those overly-long 20-pin internal cables with angled, shorter ones as others have mentioned too.

@tiago_borba

Thanks for the feedback! Are you sure we can switch the psu without any issues? I'd definitely do that if we can. Working with audio and I need a quiet environment.

@mymantiz_john

Received my package today but DHL made me pay 20 of VAT/import taxes while it said on your website that the "Europe" version was taxes free. What am I supposed to do there? Could you also please let me know whether we can switch the psu without any risk?

Cheers mate

@tiago_borba @jidey247 - there is a lot of good information already in this thread if you go back and read it -- answers your questions. Smile

@mac_editor, I tested every port tonight with my Apple SuperDrive and my wife's iPhone 11 Pro. I tested back, nearest to Ethernet to furthest, then front, closest to SD reader to furthest. Last of all, I tested by using a USB-C to Lightning cable to the iPhone 11 Pro directly to the MBP 16" and the Apple SuperDrive by a USB-C to USB-A adapter.

Not even ONE port on the eGPU worked with the Apple SuperDrive. All the ports returned the error "USB Accessory Needs Power." However, it worked with the USB-C to USB-A adapter and I successfully imported an old CD to double-check that the SuperDrive was still working well. To anyone else reading this post, if you have a device that uses USB-A and needs power, please help us test! <3

Here are the results from the tests with the iPhone 11 Pro in the order I wrote above:

Screen Shot 2020 10 28 at 21.13.09
Screen Shot 2020 10 28 at 21.14.12
Screen Shot 2020 10 28 at 21.15.06
Screen Shot 2020 10 28 at 21.16.00
Screen Shot 2020 10 28 at 21.16.55
Screen Shot 2020 10 28 at 21.18.03

I think it's interesting that it reports as a 3W charger with the iPhone 11 Pro (where it was a 2W charger with the iPhone SE). USB-C still shows as a 15W charger.

Lastly, here is a screenshot of the error from the Apple SuperDrive:

@mymantiz_john -- any news for us? I am just trying to figure out if I have a defective unit and if I need to RMA it (since that's going to be hard to do here in Japan). <3

We are going to have a test by using : Power delivery meter to insert every USB port by getting USB 2.0 Spec 5V * 0.9A , USB 3.0 SPec 5V * 1A , 1.2A & 1.5A . VS an IPhone 11 Pro Max. We’ll show you the result. We are preparing now. We’ll let you know whether the USB port is “ IN THE Spec “ or just an IPhone battery FW behavior.
