@tiago_borba

Thanks for the feedback! Are you sure we can switch the psu without any issues? I'd definitely do that if we can. Working with audio and I need a quiet environment.

@mymantiz_john

Received my package today but DHL made me pay 20 of VAT/import taxes while it said on your website that the "Europe" version was taxes free. What am I supposed to do there? Could you also please let me know whether we can switch the psu without any risk?

Cheers mate

Where’s your location? Are you in EU?

Are you using the laptop charging cable? It is not “ THunderbolt 3 cable “ .

You can go to Amazon to place our 2M Thunderbolt 3 cable

@mrcat - follow-up on my flat USB extension cables, I ended up keeping the original ones from Mantiz. They're more malleable than the flat cables so I can route them more easily in the case.

I wouldn't recommend the flat cables.

MacBook Pro 16" - 2.3 i9, 16GB, 1TB, 5500m (I added thermal pads to the VRMs); Mantiz Saturn Pro w/ PowerColor Red Devil 5700 XT (previously, a Gigabyte RX 580 Gaming Box) + LG OLED C9

@mymantiz_john, will you also test some external devices like a SuperDrive (e.g. - something like this external Blu-Ray drive: https://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics-External-Optical-WP50NB40/dp/B011327QXC/ref=zg_bs_1292123011_3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=ETGF6AWP1XFM53EWR157), please?

Thank you!

@mac_editor, I tested every port tonight with my Apple SuperDrive and my wife's iPhone 11 Pro. I tested back, nearest to Ethernet to furthest, then front, closest to SD reader to furthest. Last of all, I tested by using a USB-C to Lightning cable to the iPhone 11 Pro directly to the MBP 16" and the Apple SuperDrive by a USB-C to USB-A adapter.

Not even ONE port on the eGPU worked with the Apple SuperDrive. All the ports returned the error "USB Accessory Needs Power." However, it worked with the USB-C to USB-A adapter and I successfully imported an old CD to double-check that the SuperDrive was still working well. To anyone else reading this post, if you have a device that uses USB-A and needs power, please help us test! <3

Here are the results from the tests with the iPhone 11 Pro in the order I wrote above:

Screen Shot 2020 10 28 at 21.13.09
Screen Shot 2020 10 28 at 21.14.12
Screen Shot 2020 10 28 at 21.15.06
Screen Shot 2020 10 28 at 21.16.00
Screen Shot 2020 10 28 at 21.16.55
Screen Shot 2020 10 28 at 21.18.03

I think it's interesting that it reports as a 3W charger with the iPhone 11 Pro (where it was a 2W charger with the iPhone SE). USB-C still shows as a 15W charger.

Lastly, here is a screenshot of the error from the Apple SuperDrive:

@mymantiz_john -- any news for us? I am just trying to figure out if I have a defective unit and if I need to RMA it (since that's going to be hard to do here in Japan). <3

We are going to have a test by using : Power delivery meter to insert every USB port by getting USB 2.0 Spec 5V * 0.9A , USB 3.0 SPec 5V * 1A , 1.2A & 1.5A . VS an IPhone 11 Pro Max. We’ll show you the result. We are preparing now. We’ll let you know whether the USB port is “ IN THE Spec “ or just an IPhone battery FW behavior.

APPLE only suggested SuperDrive to connect to laptop directly, I cannot believe a blueray DVD USB interface is just 2W about. I never saw any official announcement about the Apple SuperDrive power consumption. If you had it, please let me know.

I’ve tested other Blueray DVD by Asus. It cannot work , because it required 13.75W power consumption.

We’ve tested lots of external device such as webcam; USB audio amplifier even the USB flash light...any of them power consumption is larger than 5V 1.2A. Which  is 6W more. I don’t think to use IPhone app to measure the power draw is a solid way because we know for battery protection purpose, IPhone Power management IC will handle the input current according to the what Power delivery source is.

THe easiest way to prove the USB power output is just like what I wrote above; we measure the every USB port by using Power delivery meters ( 5V * 0.9, 1. 1.2 and 1.3 A ) VS Iphone apps information. Lets’ see the result TMR.

John,

the link just points to a generic Amazon page with many models of Thunderbolt 3 cable, which one should I get? Can you be more specific?

Thanx

Here's the test result

Power delivery meter ( USB power loader )

 2020 10 29 19.10.00

 USB port had been successfully loaded with 5V* 0.4A =2W  and 5V* 0.8A =4W

 2020 10 29 19.10.11

Same USB port had been successfully loaded with 5V * 1A=5W and 5V * 1.2A=6W

 2020 10 29 19.10.18

Same USB port had been successfully loaded with 5V * 1.5A=7.5W

THere's no issue that Mantiz Saturn Pro V2 is out of the spec.

Let's see the same USB port + Smartphone + USB power devilry Meter. Guys you can see that the PHONE only required

Smartphone app showed: 145mA . But PD meter showed : 464mA

 2020 10 29 19.10.25

It tells us :

1. Smartphone decided what power delivery is.

2. Smartphone app isn't accurate compared with the real USB power meter.

Please don't get misunderstanding about Saturn Pro V2 eGPU USB which is out of specification. We can supply max 5V * 1.5A= 7.5W w/o any issue. And certainly it is not a quality problem if your smartphone gets 2W charged. Because smartphone required that power by itself.

Hello, I just received mine today in France (EU version). My GPU is Aorus 2080 Super and my laptop Razer Blade Stealth Late 2019.

It seems to work well and I'm very happy about it. Ethernet is working and every USB ports are working as expected.

I used to have a Razer Core X Chroma but I had too many issues with USB ports that's why I choosed the new Mantiz EGPU.

Thank you for this great product !

The only thing Mantiz can improve : providing an EU power cord instead of US 🙂
