Hi all,

I'm using a Razer Core with a 2060. Now I'm wondering, would it work better with a AMD card?

As in, is it possible to get grub or the boot process shown on a external monitor?

I noticed that nouveau would enable the displays earlier. Is that possible with AMD as well?

I've ended up buying a new GPU an AMD Radeon Pro WX 2100.

Linux detects and uses the AMD eGPU right after GRUB. The monitors are also there and recognized. The default GPU is the internal Intel one which makes it dog slow on my dual 4K displays.

The egpu switcher script works also with AMD and switches it.

All in all, I'm happy with AMD. I can now leave my laptop closed, which makes the egpu easier to use since I plug in a thunderbolt cable, usb hub and press the power button.

What I would like to see is an egpu switcher script for the framebuffer GPU. That way the Intel one would be disabled once linux detects the AMD one.

@roland

My experiences haven't exactly been smooth sailing:

AMD eGPU driver bad performance benchmarking

Maybe gaming isn't a thing for you but you should at least be made aware.

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

Thanks for the response @sebulon I didn't know that. Not that it matters, I'm not planning to play games with it. It's fast enough to drive my two 4K monitors.

I would've bought a better GPU but with prices being as they are...
