Hello everyone,

I just found this forum quite late I think. Let's see if my mistake can be solved.

First of all;

I'm a happy owner of a Late 2012 Mac mini

i7 2,3 GHz , 16 GB 1600 Mhz and 480 GB SSD.

I also had a Nvidia GTX 1060 6 GB . And I bought this https://www.razer.com/gb-en/gaming-laptops/razer-core-x
, because I thought it can run Nvidia graphics cards reading this:  https://github.com/learex/macOS-eGPU

The problem:  My Mac mini it's Thunderbolt  , NOT thunderbolt 3...

IF I buy this cable https://www.amazon.es/CableDeconn-Displayport-DisplayPort-Resolution-Aluminium/dp/B00Q5Z61T8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1546962594&sr=8-1&keywords=Apple+Thunderbolt+3+%28USB-C%29+to+Thunderbolt+2+Adapter

shall it works ?
Anyone have got any idea?   🙁

Thank's in advice!

Mac Mini late 2012, wiht SSD 480GB upgraded and 16 GB RAM.
Looking forward install an eGPU

Hi Aghnaya,

although I am not an experienced eGPU member - furthermore,  with no experience with the described cable,
I recommend you to use the original Apple Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter. Even it costs much more as the described cable, it works - at least in my system.
If you are patient - wait until you get a response from another member who has some experience with the described cable.
Or, if you are more patient - and you have the opportunity to send it back (in case it does not work) - try it out.
I made my experience in making a similar system (Mac Mini with TB2 and an eGPU with TB3) running - and made good experience with the original accessories.
As a further help for making a decision, check the Mac Mini systems under "Builds".
By the way-  I do not think that you did already a mistake. Let us wait and see what the eGPU legends are writing - I am curious.
Good luck and cheers.

Yeah, but I thought I had finally the answer to squeeze my Mac Mini, because it still works awesome! I'm so happy with it , but editing few videos... and watching some movies at 4k, not even talk to play some cool new videogames  😆

There is few mistakes done, I had my macOS Mojave 10.14.2 right now.  I can downgrade but, it's another mistake xD

I was thinking to return all stuff back and get money. And try to buy new Mac with graphics card... but fucking apple Macs! they are damn so expensive, I can't afford anything with a decent graphics card!  😡

But as you mentioned, I think my cable (or connection) isn't working properly, because I couldn't detect anything on mac when I connected the eGPU. I had a partition with High Sierra and tried there. and at any moment the graphics cards had switched on.
Also, I couldn't check anything at "System Information -->Thunderbolt"

Don't know if spend more money and try the original Apple cable or return everything :/

EDIT;  I didn't tell it before SORRY!   I bought this cable from Amazon, and test it without success.   USB-C Type c to Mini DisplayPort

@aghnaya The cable you bought is USB-C to mini-DisplayPort. It only transmits DisplayPort signal. Therefore did not work with your 2012 Mac mini + Razer Core X. Like @hans-st mentioned, the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt adapter is the best one to get. It has the male Thunderbolt 3 end that goes to the Razer Core X and a Thunderbolt female end that connects to a Thunderbolt cable to your Mac mini's Thunderbolt port. Last but not least, due to the lack of Nvidia web drivers for 10.14.x, you'd need to run 10.13 or older in order to use the GTX 1060.

Ok @itsage.  Already bought that Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt adapter.  How apple abuse of their pricing...  👿

This weekend I'll downgrade to macOS 10.13.3.
There is any tutorial or guide step by step to follow when I got the Adapter?  It's almost Plug & Play, right?
Thanks!

@aghnaya have a look on the "Builds" site.
There are 10 more or less detailed examples of Mac Mini 2012 systems and three of 2011. Two are using the NVIDIA GTX 1060.
However, they are not using the razer-core-x egpu.
Anyway, there should be one example you can use to get your system running.
But one thing is sure: It is not a plug and play thing - even not "almost".
Success

I have another opinion in those things. Especially this adapter is high quality and worth every penny. So is most apple hardware. Nobody is obliged to buy it, if it's too expensive. There is a lot of right critic against Apple, but those are the wrong ones.

Why it's says I'm driver version 17G66? I thouhgt I was version 17G65 on NVIDIA GTX 1060 ?? I'm a bit lost... Do I need to downgrade my macOS again ? I downgraded to 10.13.6 this weekend xD

Any idea please?  🙄

@Aghnaya what is the reason for using this script and not purge-wrangler from mac-editor (Thank you)?
Purge-wrangler worked absolutely fine for me.
Cheers
