[Solved] AMD Navi 7nm for eGPU - Radeon RX 5700 & RX 5700 XT
edit -- it turns out my black usb-c cable looks just like my black t3 cable. What a world we live in. Recognizes and works fine.
Oh but one funny thing I can seem to crack 61fps on heaven for some reason even with v sync disabled I’m stuck at 60fps
... you'd feel that upgrade.
Hi there how is the sound of the core x . is the powersupply fan loud when idle.
Thanks in advance
A) 2020 MacBook Pro, i7-1068NG7, 32GB RAM, 1TB, EGPU Razer Core X, Gigabyte OC 3080 10Gb, Samsung 49 1440p UltraWide C49RG
Mac OS Catalina 10.15.7, Internal Bootcamp Windows 10 latest update previously W10 2004 pci.sys swap.
B) 2.7 GHz I7 4 Cores, 16Gb, 1TB MBP 13 2018 TB3 , EGPU Razer Core X, Nitro+ RX5700 xt 8Gb, LG 32UK550
Mac OS Catalina 10.15.2, Ext SSD Windows 10 1903 V1 .295
Updated to 10.15.1 and 5700 XT is happily working. Since I don't have the Huawei VR cable yet I tested the eGPU with it connect to the Mac mini and the mini connected to the LG Ultrafine monitor. Performance in games is pretty rubbish as I expected due quite a few reasons 1) The drivers aren't optimised 2) games run better in Windows, so taking a hit in MacOS 3) not directly connecting to the monitor which I think causes the biggest performance drop. I presume in this setup the iGPU is still handling desktop animations etc?
The standard fan on the CoreX produces pretty poor acoustics, I swapped mine immediately for a Noctua NF-S12A FLX which was straight forward. The PSU fan however has an even worse acoustic profile, so looks like that is next on the list. The other option would be to get a 2m active Thunderbolt 3 cable and put the CoreX as far away from you as possible :p
can anybody tell me if a RX5700 (non XT) will work on my Sonnet eGFX Box with 350W? Or ist the 550W needed?
If it would work with my Sonnet 350 I would upgrade to an 5700 as I have the white screen of death problem with my RX570 and Catalina.
