Best possible eGPU setup for MacBook Air 2020 (intel) - what to do?

My son and I love playing Warhammer on the Mac, and I have a 2016 MacBook Pro 13" with the Blackmagic eGPU (Radeon Pro 580) while he has just the MacBook Air 2020 (intel version).   They're both kind of slow and the graphics quality on this game isn't great.  I think with co-op, that it might reduce my graphic quality to match his too.

I'd like to add an eGPU to his machine.  Should I:

* Get another Blackmagic eGPU setup

* Get the Razer Core X and then add ?  (Vega 64 or the 5700 XT)?

* Wait to see what Apple launches with new M1 hardware this year?

Thoughts much appreciated

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.

Try the Sonnet Breakaway Puck 5700 if you’re gaming on a 4K TV or 4K external display.

Blackmagic’s eGPU is too slow for gaming.

There’s nothing else available at retail price in 2021.
