not gaming, or heavy video-editing - just want some buttery productivity for design and audio work on 4k/UHD from my 2012 macbook retina (over TB1). Seems like the RX 560 is the 'most budget' official card, but top of an eGPU enclosure that is still pushing my budget.
But i've heard the much cheaper GE 710 can work wonderfully without drivers etc in a hackintosh (not to mention silently). But I'm only just catching up with the general lack of Nvidia support. Any way to patch to make any other AMD (old, new whatever) work with eGPU over TB1? ( i assume with purge-wrangler.hs running for the TB1 side of things?)
I've seen Learex's learex macOS-eGPU patches to allow NVidia and older AMD GPU support, but they're for High Sierra.
I'd be very grateful for any suggestions thanks.

@tim_gummer, Get the Sonnet Breakaway Puck 560. At $300 it's the most affordable solution with macOS.

@, Thanks but it's mainly the card that I'm curious about, rather than the enclosure.
(though yes the sonnet looks like a good deal)
