I have a 2017 MacBook Pro with a 3.1 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7.

and with 16 GB of RAM.

Currently I am on Catalina 10.15.3 .

I run 3 , 4k Philips 328E1CA 32" Curved Monitors

the 3rd one is mostly for playback that I use a Blackmagic intensity pro thats in thunderbolt 3 chassis.

I am using the the latest adobe suite. I edit on premiere and exports are starting bog. (I need to work off a laptop so no using a desktop is out of the question.)

My timelines have tons of mixed codecs , and effects and filters. I do some AE work as well. I was looking at the razer chroma for a chassis, but I am stumped on the card. Trying to not go past 1k all in. But willing to spend more if it will make a difference. So anyways any guidance and help would be fantastic! I combed thru this site and could not find a similar build so that's why I am creating a thread.

thanks so much guys!

@jeffro

The RX 5700 XT from Sapphire will help.

Make sure to update Catalina to 10.15.6.

Definitely something from Nvidia as most professional software available to the average consumer is optimized for CUDA. I don't know exactly what as I'm very new to eGPUs.

Are you using any dedicated graphics at the moment?

Also, I've heard that if your MacBook has multiple Thunderbolt ports, each one can drive a 4K display. Though I'm not sure what MacBook model that pertains to and whether that's using the in-chassis GPU or connected external graphics.

Though it seems like you might need to connect a second external Thunderbolt enclosure if you plan on using both an eGPU and your existing Black Magic output card.

Start a new thread as a separate topic. You’re talking about doing something very different than @jeffro.

An Nvidia card would not work in the Mac OS setup @jeffro is discussing in this thread.
