13” MBP 2018, Windows 10 Bootcamp, EVGA GT 640 compatibly?
I’ve done a lot of reading over the last 3 or so days. I feel like I’m having a bit of a hard time finding everything in one place and it being up to date so I wanted to ask everyone directly. Thanks for your help ahead of time!
So right now, my friend has a used EVGA GT 640 that he’ll give me. I currently own a 2018 MacBook Pro with an i7 8559U CPU, Intel Iris 640 (integrated graphics), 16 gigs of memory, and 256 in storage. I have the drive partitioned to Windows 10 64bit to play Overwatch. I can play decently on it with all lowest graphics settings, and 60 FPS max for about an hour but after that it freezes. I don’t need a whole lot in terms of graphics, just enough that the game doesn’t freeze mid-match. so I just wanted to make sure that I’m able to use that GPU with my specific computer and OS enough so it won’t freeze.
Also, I read the guide on eGPU enclosures and since I don’t have a ton of money I wanted to see if anyone knew the most cost effective one that is compatible. I found the whole Beast eGPU connector but I read that Intel took all the cables off the market since it’s proprietary or something. (Only mentioned it to see if anyone knows anything different). I think the Razer Core something was about 200 which was probably what I’d go with unless someone has another suggestion.
Thank you you so much for your help everyone!
Evga GT 640 is an nice and very compatible card, which works both in Windows 10 and Mac OSX Mojave. It's not too powerful, but for normal workload and smaller games suitable.
