Does length matter? - Thunderbolt Cable Length
Hey, I've got a Aorus GTX 1080 Gaming Box running off my 2013 Macbook Pro 13", via TB3 > TB3 adapter... It's running great, but I'm having an issue with intermittent lag, where the game hangs for a full second or two, apparently while loading textures or autosaving (or both). I know the TB2 I'm using is a bottleneck, as is the older 2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 I'm running it on. My question is, can I improve this any by using a shorter TB2 cable? Right now I'm using a 2m TB2 cable (after the adapter), just because I thought my setup was going to be farther apart. Currently I could be using a 0.5m cable, but before shelling out another $26, I'm wondering if it will make any difference. I notice folks are using short cables, but does it really have an effect at these small distances?
@itsage I'm using StarTech.com brand TB2 6' cable; they're not cheap. The adapter is Apple; only adapter I found that would work for this application. So you're saying with different length cables you didn't notice a difference in throughput?
