I'm trying to run Katago (open source AI-application, based on alpha go) on my laptop (Dell Latitude 7300), but it doesn't work (poor performance, gets very hot). I think I need a GPU. I don't have a desktop so am considering getting an eGPU (I'm thinking RTX 3060 Ti 8GB). I also expect that my video editing projects (Davinci Resolve) will also benefit a lot from a GPU.

My laptop has a Thunderbolt port (One USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 2 port).

According to this post, it should work

But it is a significant investment, so I am looking for a little more certainty - my questions:

  1. Does anyone have experience with the described setup (Latitude 7300 + eGPU / RTX 3060)?
  2. If yes, does it work properly?
  3. Is the RTX 3060 a good choice for my use cases (Davinci, Katago), or would you recommend a different GPU?

To do: Create my signature with system and expected eGPU configuration information to give context to my posts. I have no builds.
