Hey EGPU.io community,

I am so thankful to find this forum! I have not seen any post regarding running bootcamp with my iMac Pro 5k (vega 64) for better gaming. If I missed a important post with someone in the same scenario I apologize in advance.

What enclosure and card do you recommend for gaming with the equipment I have? I am not concerned with price, my focus is performance. I will primarily be playing Apex and other FPS.

I understand from reading this forum that an iMac Pro 5k can tend to be tricky with error 12. Ease of use will be important to me as I am somewhat technically inclined.

I look forward with connecting with the community!

Thank you for the response! Playing Apex Legends on bootcamp and playing it at 4k is not the level of smooth I would expect it to be. Any recommendations?

You can go with RTX 2080 Ti + Mantiz Venus Space Gray. There's performance loss with loopback acceleration but it may be satisfactory vs Pro Vega 64 dGPU.

Keep in mind, that with loopback acceleration you are quite limited in both FPS and resolution. You won't be able to beat a build-in Vega64, if you ask me.

What is causing the loop back acceleration ? Software or hardware issue? Is there a way to overcome it?

@nick_easton there is no way to overcome loopback loss (as far as I know), it's physical limitations of having to pass data back through cables and out to a screen via some gubbins rather than straight out from the GPU.

Due to this bottlenecking/performance loss a 2080ti may not perform much better than the Vega 64, maybe...

Playing at 4K is super demanding, if I were in your shoes I would crank res down to 1440 (1/2 your native 5K) and you'll be getting great FPS...

2017 13" MacBook Pro Touch Bar
GTX1060 + AKiTiO Thunder3 + Win10
GTX1070 + Sonnet Breakaway Box + Win10
GTX1070 + Razer Core V1 + Win10
Vega 56 + Razer Core V1 + macOS + Win10
Vega 56 + Mantiz Venus + macOS + W10
