they seem to be about 500.00 more than the dell (ebay and all) but ill keep an eye on both since they are both dell and both have near identical specs.

i was under the impression the 7th gen have all the tb3 to the cpu these days? so the 7757 and that 15 r3 should have the same hardware setup for tb3 pipes no?

Unfortunately TB3 «» CPU is very rare. We found only a handful of systems with that desirable configuration. I've tested a Dell Precision 7520 which has a 7th gen quad-core CPU. The Thunderbolt connection was through the PCH.

hmmm, got it.  do we have any metrics on speeds between pch vs cpu for tb3?

the alienware is maybe 300 more on the low end which is a major overage given my budget is already pushed. i will see if i can get one but the dell fits much better into my price point. that said if the dell is going to be 30% slower than the alienware then i guess i dont have a choice but if its going to be a 5% difference then idk if it matters to me much?

i just did more research into the alienware and it does not have a number pad on the keyboard. that's a deal breaker for me, i cant buy that one. the dell is my only choice
