Need suggestions about buying a laptop
Hello! I was wondering if anyone can help me decide which computer I should buy, That is ofcourse compatible with an eGPU, I'm thinking about an AMD RTX 570/580 Or Nvidia GTX 1050/1060 3Gb, So my question is, What is the best performance laptop I can get for 500$ and less?
If I'm posting in the wrong place please correct me, Thanks in advance
It will depend where you are located. In the US I have found that you can find good pre-owned Lenovo Yoga 730 with 8th Gen 8250U quad core and 8GB RAM for under $500 ( I have 2) on ebay. They have 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports with 4 PCI-e lanes. It comes in 13.3 or 15.6 inches. The 13.3 inch version is just a bit more than 2.8 pounds with touch screen. I is very light and portable and performs very well.
GPUs from low to high would be GTX 1050 (entry level), GTX 1050TI, RX 570, RX580 4GB or GTX 1060 3GB. The RX 580 8GB or GTX 1060 6GB are the best value in my opinion and good pre-owned can be found on ebay for <$150US. The most economical enclosures are the Akitio Node or Sonnet Breakaway box (<$200 pre-owned).
The Lenovo Yoga 720 is a good option and cheaper. You can easily find a 2 core i5-7200U under $500 and possibly one that has an i5-8250U. the Lenovo yoga 720 like the XPS 13 (more expensive) have 1 x Thunderbolt 3 port but with only 2x PCI-E lanes. In my experience and with the games my family plays and together with a GTX 1060 or RX 580 it still performs very well. the yoga 720 is also light and portable and has touch screen. The Lenovo ideapad 720s is also a good option but not touch screen. Purchasing any of those retail will be more than $500. see this
Hi, Thank you for your reply , Well, the Lenovo Yoga 730 is a good choice, but I'm actually looking for a laptop that supports the GDC expresscard method because If I'm right it's cheaper (I'm sorry for not clarifying earlier), anyway, thanks again
Dell e6430 with i7 3740QM quad core. I purchased 2 (first one was $249 USD, second one was $180USD). Both were in excellent condition. See my build specs here
