@marekreg, if I were in your place, i would go for a sonnet breakaway 350 enclosure, apple’s  tb3 to 2 adapter, thunderbolt cable and an older nvidia Kepler card like gtx770  which have native support on macos or amd 5500, 570. All the choices I made were to make you have less bottleneck with the dual core models that you own.

@marekreg, 2010 MacBook Pro does not have Thunderbolt connectivity so you'd only be able to use an eGPU with the 2015 MacBook Air.
