Hi Guys,

I have the TB3 LG 5k Monitor and a 2018  Macbook Pro 15inch (Purely running OSX at this stage).

Rather than jumping into the BlackMagic setup I was hoping to see if anyone has done the following and it worked with one cable to the EGPU and straight to the monitor and still retained the monitor controls, speakers and microphone usage:

Akito Node Duo EGPU enclosure (or anything else that can house all the required hardware)

GC-TITAN RIDGE Thunderbolt 3 Card

Radeon WX7100 Graphics card

If I have missed anything please let me know, I really just want a clean setup with one cable out of the laptop to the EGPU that charges the device, and then another from the EGPU to the monitor.

Thanks in advance.

If you connect the Thunderbolt display to the second Thunderbolt port of the Node Duo, then you get all the USB features, but the display is connected to the MacBook Pro's dGPU.

If you connect the Thunderbolt display to the GC-TITAN RIDGE then the display is connected to the GPU that is connected to the GC-TITAN RIDGE, buy you don't get any of the USB features (audio, brightness control, USB ports, etc.).

You'll need more power for the Node Duo. Google "node duo" site:egpu.io
for unboxing, review, and example builds.

Sounds like its better to wait till the new year to see what comes onto the scene.

I could get the node pro to get around the power issue but I still think finding a solution to do it with one port will still be out of reach.

I've been in the same situation, and explored a few options.

Add in TB3 card using a powered riser in my Mantiz - Unreliable to the extent I couldn't get it to work (itsage did manage to with his set up).

TB3 add in card inside a Node Lite, daisy chained. - Again unreliable, out of all the cable combos I tired only one of about four options would work.

As above but not daisy chained - much more successful but no longer a single cable.

I bought a high end LG 4K display to replace my 5k and tbh it was a piece of crap and caused constant BSOD in windows (or maybe my card has issues? who knows).

Blackmagics are great if you are only using macOS as they are super quiet and have a small foot print due to their vertical orientation.

Thanks for the response, I keep going down TB3 card rabbit holes researching things and end up at the same place.

Im wondering if I go about it by passing the video via the dv to usb-c cable (Moshi) then passing the extra thunderbolt stuff (camera, speakers and controls) via the other port on the Node Pro or is the monitor going to go crazy with the two lines in.

If the above works I would be ok with that..

I also have the Moshi cable and it doesnt work. I don't think the double cable idea wouldn't even work if the Moshie cable worked...

I've been looking for a solution for about 2 years now.

One thing I thing I have finally worked out... the only times I was able to get 5K in Windows is with the Apple supplied Intel drivers, thats just clicked, I had no idea why I could sometimes get 5K and sometimes only 4, it was a real head scratcher but I think thats the answer.

Yeah it sucks there is only one clean option...

I'm thinking I'll just do a setup like old mate here...

Then if an enclosure comes up down the track that can do what I need I'll have another look.

I'm not a gamer so this should work for me as I'm doing 3d, editing and VR applications.
