I haven't seen many threads with people using the new Razer Blade 15 and was wonder what everyone's thoughts on this are. I'm running 2x 2560x1440 displays, one of them 144hz so I want the 1080ti power on the desktop and 1060 for when travelling and with work.  Any thoughts or items I should research further? I chose the Venus because I wanted the ethernet, 2.5" enclosure and the power available for the 1080 ti.

I’ve 2 main monitors as well on Blade 15 egpu setting, 1440p g sync with 165Hz and 4K ips 60Hz. Tried rtx2080 and 2080ti, my old card was 1080ti Zotac Mini. Atm i stick with Evga 2070 Black for price for performance. It’s sweat spot for 1440p, sometimes I play open world games on even ultrawide on both Monitor using surrounds view mode. There’s some graphics performance down beside TB3 bandwidth on Blade 15 egpu setting but thanks to powerful cpu, it can match the performance similar with great graphics performance TB3 host like MacBook Pro and other ultrabook with weaker cpu. Here’s performance comparison on 1080ti that I had between TB3 ultrabook and Blade 15. Take a look at graphics performance.

The advantages that I feel a lot is cpu thermal improvement. Here’s some cpu heat comparison playing over an hour between dgpu 1070maxq and egpu setting, it is around 15 degrees improvement on cpu gpu demanding title, AC Odyssey. Depends on titles it could be up to around 20 degrees improvement.

I run a 2016 blade with the 1060 Max Q and a 980Ti FTW eGPU usually connected to a Sony 55” TV. It works well and definitely saves my laptop from heating up like a beast. I’ve been very happy with the performance. I game between 1080p and 4K (depending on the game) and do 4K video rendering via Davinci Resolve.

I’ve definitely experienced latency and hiccups when using an external HD and USB peripherals via the PowerColor Devil Box thing while running the 980Ti hard. Something to be aware of if you’re doing anything heavy load. I wouldn’t run Ethernet through my eGPU if running any sort of heavy load.

2017 iMac i7/580 => Gigabyte Vega 64 8GB OC + Sonnet w/Enermax 650

2016 Razer Blade (GTX1060) => PowerColor eGPU + EVGA GTX 980 TI FTW
