Hi all,

New to this and looking for something as close to plug & play as possible. I currently have a Dell XPS-13 9650 with a 7th gen i7. Love the notebook and if I upgrade at all it will be to a new XPS-13. I currently have a Lenovo TB3 dock and drive an ultrawide 34" monitor. It's not bad, but I'd love to get a good eGPU chassis for gaming.

My wish list: TB3/4 with passthrough. At least a couple of USB 3.1 ports. Onboard storage would be fantastic. But it seems to be deceptively hard to find something that checks all my boxes.

The Mantiz Saturn Pro II is pretty close, but it doesn't have TB passthrough and isn't easily available in Canada (oh, did I mention I'm Canadian?) but it does have a slot for an mSATA SSD. The Razer chassis look really good but they have neither passthrough nor enough USB connections and are pretty close to useless for what I want. The ASUS ROG chassis at least has some ports and Canadian availability is good. It's pretty big, though and I'm not crazy about how it looks.

I thought I might have found what I want with the blackmagic eGPU Pro when I looked it up this week. It's not EXACTLY what I want (I'd prefer to buy/install my own card), but it has passthrough, shows nice industrial design, and I can order it through the Canadian Apple Store for a fair price. My biggest concern here though is I can't seem to confirm whether it will support my XPS-13 without hacking drivers.

Anybody have any thoughts? Not in a rush but I'm probably doing something in the next few months.

@brett_chandler, Certified Thunderbolt 3 eGPU enclosures don't have TB3 passthrough. The Blackmagic eGPU is an exception because Apple needed an eGPU with Thunderbolt 3 monitor output. I don't recommend it due to poor support in non-macOS environment and no upgrade path.

The only reasonable Thunderbolt 3 enclosure for eGPU use with a second Thunderbolt 3 port for passthrough is AKiTiO Node Pro. You can daisy-chain the Lenovo TB3 dock to it. Unless you absolutely need TB3 passthrough, the Mantiz Saturn Pro is the best choice atm.
