thanks for your feedbacks,

@hans-st : PowerColor mini + enclosure fan off seems to be the most powerful/portable/silent option now 🙂

Zotac Mini Box don't have an enclosure fan so I guess it make sense to turn it off on the PowerColor Mini Pro. But is there any chance that the board fries?

I travel only with a backpack so I guess I can drop a bit of performance to have something smaller 🙂 For now my thoughts are that I might not buy a portable solution yet, wait few months if there is a better solution, and go for now with a second hand enclosure for home (there is a cheap Zotac Amp Box mini and Mantiz Venus on my local Craiglist).

@jangoloti_1,  kfa2 SNPR seems good but I can't find a place to buy it!

2 year ago there was an offer: kfa2 SNPR egpu + gtx 1060 inside at 266euros (230$) on the french market. Was it a good offer?

Noob question: is it possible to have a Zotac Mini Box charge with a 100w power adapter? lets say you have a 70w or less gpu, as the zotac deliver only 15w max to laptop it will get to total 85w?

Also: you guys are expert on PSU alimentation, I'll be glad, if by any chance you have some resources to share about how the gpu / egpu enclosure drain power and how "wattage" works in general!

Cheers

@anis_souris,  the KFA2 has the 1060 integrated. It was sold in RueduCommerce, for instance, but I do not find it anymore.

Actually I do not think so. I just played under windows for 150min Civilisation 5 and the main fan turned very moderately and I did not notice it.

So far I faced no challenges with the heat.

Cheers

@hans-st.

I've not had time to write a installation guide/review of the Powercolor mini.

But the I followed the normal process.

1. Disable SIP. csrutil disable

2. Connected eGPU

3. Ran script - which of some reason stated I had a Thunderbolt2 port

4. Script found eGPU and Vega card.

5. Rebooted and login in with the use of HDMI connection as I have FileVault activated.

6. Everything worked.

7. Rebooted and enabled SIP: csrutil enable --without kext

8. Reboot and now I type password in the dark but that's ok Smile

Edit: I used apples TB/TB2/TB3 adapter, TB2 cable, Powercolor TB3 bale and a 90 degree usb-c connector.

Finally I got the time to prepare my Mac Mini 2014 as a back-up system in accordance with your guideline. It was an easy job for MacOS 10.15.3, thank you.

Did you ever try to get the PowerColor Mini Pro / Mac Mini 2012 system working with Windows?

This is a challenge for me. The eGPU is detected, the driver is installed, however an error 207 is indicated by the radeon installation program. It seems to me that the Win 10 / Intel TB / PowerColor Mini Pro / TB3->TB2 adapter system, installed on a Mac Mini 2014, does not work.

BTW, what is a TB3 bale?

Cheers

I never got around to try windows.
I've never been into windows gaming or use.

A "bale" is the misspelled word "cable" Grin
