@chynk, the 2017 13 inch MBP is very easy these days with both AMD and Nvidia cards, however the CPU is only a low watt dual core so limits fps quite badly.
I set up a Mac mini recently and that was quite easy.
You have to work out your needs (sounds like you have), performance expectations and level of tinkering you are happy with (sounds minimal).

@eightarmedpet, that's certainly something to consider now that you've brought it to my attention!
I've read a few of your posts through these forums and you seem to know a fair deal about mac builds.
I actually do much prefer a 15" being quad core but figured I'd run into the same dGPU hiccup I'm currently going through with my 2015.
Is it only the m370x dGPU that is problematic or is it going to be all builds featuring a dGPU?
I don't know where to go at this point, whether to replace my macbook for a model that isn't so puzzling or to keep at it but try an Nvidia card in place of AMD

.I am looking into building an E-GPU for my MacBook Pro. I am running the latest version of Catalina (10.15.7). Does it support the Radeon 5700XT and if not, what is the latest one I can use.

@itsage, I think I was able to get past error 12 with eGPU-toggler but I believe I end up with error 43 following it? That's what the status file says after I run toggler.

Name: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
The device has the following problem: 43

Do you have any insight as to how to correct this?
The hardware all works as it's fine in Mac OS Catalina.
I've done DDU (3x), on Windows 10 1903 OS Build 18362.295, with driver Win10-Radeon-Software-Adrenalin-Apr2020-BootCamp-Red-Edition
Run toggler until error 12 goes away then I'm left with error 43 and now I'm stuck

.@chynk, Which Mac are you using? Prior to 2017 models, most Macs don't have Large Memory allocation in Boot Camp. If it has a dGPU, things can get more complicated. I'm not familiar with eGPU-toggler so I can't comment and how it effects different components in Windows.

@itsage, yeah, 2015 15" m370x dGPU. The more difficult dGPU it seems from what I've been learning.
I've tried reading a bit of the Mid 2015 Master Thread as well as the automate-eGPU EFI.
I have yet to get automate-eGPU EFI working properly as when I boot from my usb drive, my eGPU isn't detected.
Still trying to figure that out, tbh I've never learned coding so this is all very new to me

.@chynk, I personally had tested the 2015 15-in MacBook Pro with Radeon RX 580 eGPU in Boot Camp. My machine has iGPU however. I also needed automate-eGPU EFI to load the precompiled DSDT override in order to resolve error 12 (Large Memory allocation in Windows).

@itsage, If automate-eGPU EFI is to resolve error 12 then I don't think I need it even? It appears error 43 is where I'm at currently

.@chynk, error 43 is an odd one and I am not sure it's a very specific error code, unlike error 12 which is a resource issue.
In my experience error 43 can either be driver or power related, try running DDU to remove all AMD drivers and also check everything is plugged in correctly.
