@andy, Hi, I’m looking for an affordable egpu setup for gaming. I have a Dell Inspiron 3542 laptop: CPU: i7-4510u, GPU-GeForce 840m, RAM: 8gb, OS-Windows 10 and it has a mini PCIe port which I want to attach an exp gdc with an egpu to be able to play newer games on a Samsung 4K tv(though I don’t mind playing at 1080p or 720p. I just have no clue as to what gpu to buy to get the best possible graphics and performance without bottlenecking and to keep it running smoothly. I also have no clue no to set anything up or how and where to get the software and drivers and stuff from. I know my computer specs are really low, but I just need an affordable way to boost my graphics performance for a little bit of PC gaming now and then I don’t need a whole new desktop rig right..any help would be greatly appreciated as I know almost nothing. Please help!

Hi everyone, 

I have a MacBook Retina 12 ” and I would like to know if it is possible to use eGPU on it, I searched the website for some history but I couldn't find it. There is a USB C port, but I believe it is not enabled for this function, Wi-Fi does not appear to be in an mPCIe slot and there aren’t any Thunderbolt 🙁

Anyone have any ideas?

@helio_mota, Unfortunately it's not possible on the 12-in MacBook. It doesn't have Thunderbolt connectivity and all internal components are soldered.

Hi!

I have a 2018 HP Zbook 14u G5 build 2ZC34EA#AK8 laptop (Core i7-8550U at 1.8GHz, 16GB RAM, Intel UHD Graphics 620 / AMD Radeon Pro WX 3100 2GB GDDR5, Win 10 Pro 64-bit, DisplayPort 1.2 over USB-C).

I'm interested in boosting its gaming performance and have found the possibility of eGFX/eGPU. 

The laptop has a Thunderbolt 3 port, but I can't find the specific capabilities of the port beyond that, I've ever only used it for USB-C to mobile phone data/power connection. I have asked in HP forums if it has eGFX support but have not (yet) seen an answer. I suspect it will only be able to do 16Gbps, but I'm not sure?

I have looked at builds here (and searched the forum) but have not found anyone using a Zbook 14u G5. The closest match seems to be the 2018 14" HP EliteBook 840 G5 that I found here: https://egpu.io/forums/builds/2019-hp-elitebook-840-g5-8th-4-u-gtx-950-32gb-tb3-razer-core-x-win10-1809-enterprise/

Do you have any advice for me?

Is this maybe a known lost cause, or something that could actually be expected to work with the Razer Core X or a similar product?

@helio_mota, Unfortunately it's not possible on the 12-in MacBook. It doesn't have Thunderbolt connectivity and all internal components are soldered.

 

On the Raspberry Pi 4, they unsoldered a USB controller to take over that one PCIe lane Smile

Hi Everyone 🙂 

hope yall are doing good. If you are able to read this...

then After doing homework and researching and reading and understanding as far as my intelligence allowed me to reach, I was able to come up with an order which I believe probably won't work. I am probably wasting your time and I will be wasting time while an RTX Video card is still in box been collecting dust for 5weeks. 🙁   

I am stuck with these products now. I purchased the https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07XZ1F47L/ from amazon like a month ago and I wanted to make sure that it will support the https://www.amazon.ca/GIGABYTE-GeForce-Windforce-Graphics-GV-N207SWF3OC-8GD/dp/B07WN6RVHH/  rtx 2070 super with 2019 Asus G51GT w/16gb RAM, GTX 1650 and Intel Core i7-9750H @ 2.60GHz with 1.12 TB Storage. 

If I remove the SSD from m.2 NVMe slot I would lose my SSD storage of 512GB and have the other 700 GB in the HDD.  using the M.2 Slot.
The M.2 2280 slot supports both PCIe (NVMe) SSD and SATA SSD

I was also able to contact the ADT link about the Graphics card external adapter and speak with a representative who assured me that everything will work as long as I have the necessary components and PSU of 600 - 650W or more.

If any of you Pros can lend an ear or two for this challenge, I would really appreciate that given that my laptop lacks the Thunderbolt3 interface.  

I also have https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07JKS4ZKG/  nVME USB SSD Card, USB 3.0 M.2(NGFF) M Key SSD External hoping to install the SSD.
