I couldnt seem to find the same directory inHwinfo as the one uploaded in this article to the alpine ridge controller of the acer swift 5. Instead i found a dedicated gpu with 4x pcie lanes. Nyone know howmany pcie lanes are dedicated to the acer swift 5 2020? the image wont seem to upload

@louisoosthuizen7gmail-com, If it's using Ice Lake (which has integrated Thunderbolt iTBT), then each Thunderbolt port has full performance (better than discrete Thunderbolt even if dTBT has four lanes in the case where two GPUs are connected to two ports of the same controller).

Mac mini (2018), Mac Pro (Early 2008), GA-Z170X-Gaming 7, Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 8GB GDDR5, Radeon Pro W5700, Sonnet Echo Express III-D, Trebleet Thunderbolt 3 to NVMe M.2 case

I think Dell Latitude 5511 compatibility analysis would be highly appreciated by many folks.

I really want to make the jump from desktop to laptop with an eGPU, but I am really torn which laptop I should get.

Currently I am trying to decide between Macbook 13" or Razer Blade Stealth, both being 2020 model. I really like the ecosystem of mac, but I am scared it will be too much work getting the eGPU to work.

I am a software developer and will be using the laptop docked in while working. In my spare time I game, ex. World of Warcraft, Fall Guys, etc. etc. I would prefer to have steady FPS but also know the limits of eGPUs.

Can anyone recommend either of the laptops, or even a third option. I don't have a budget, but prefer ultrabooks. Will be gaming on a 27" QHD external monitor.

@jonathan_birch, I would strongly recommend the LG Gram 2020 lineup. They have Ice Lake CPU and two M.2 sockets. Good battery life and quality is better than Razer in my experience.

@jonathan_birch , try a 14" Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 with the 7nm 8-core Ryzen 4800U CPU + 2 x M.2 slots:

https://www.notebookcheck.net/The-Ryzen-7-4800U-is-an-Absolute-Monster-Lenovo-Yoga-Slim-7-14-Laptop-Review.456068.0.html

Cut a hole in the bottom of the system to get M.2 slot access, then attach an ADT-Link R43SG M.2 eGPU adapter. This CPU * eGPU  combo will yield superfast performance when docked. See this build for an idea on how to do this:

https://egpu.io/forums/builds/2015-15-dell-precision-7510-q-m1000m-6th4ch-gtx-1080-ti-32gbps-m2-adt-link-r43sg-win10-1803-nando4-compared-to-tb3-performance/

eGPU Setup 1.35    •    eGPU Port Bandwidth Reference Table

2015 15" Dell Precision 7510 (Q M1000M) [6th,4C,H] + GTX 1080 Ti @32Gbps-M.2 (ADT-Link R43SG) + Win10 1803 // compares M.2 vs TB3 performance inc unoptimized H-CPU BIOS [build link]
