Comments

I'm using this setup mainly for training deep learning models and occasional flight simulator game. So far everything runs smoothly.

One good thing about RTX 3090 Dell OEM is its length dimension only +/- 26 cm. It can fit my eGPU really well.

@itsage, thanks. It took forever for me to finish it by hand sanding 🙂

It's been more than 2 years since I wrote this post, and I think I should update this again so others with similar situation may learn something from my experience.

So, few months after I made this post, Windows 10 pushed major update, that was when everything fell apart. My system crashed with blue screen easily every time I run my eGPU.  I tried to follow few tutorials on this forum related with BSOD issue, but nothing worked for me.

I've should write more details about things I have tried to fix, but I don't have time to do it so this my summaries:

  • The problem is because my laptop's internal NVIDIA GPU GTX1070 clashed with other NVIDIA card on external GPU. Once I tried using AMD card on my eGPU, no problem at all!
  • I tried to turn off internal GPU, no success in this particular notebook type
  • Last year I tried to fresh install & configure my system with Win 11 and follow through again BSOD tutorial from this forum, no success.
  • Now I'm happy enough to use free cloud GPU on Google Colab and Kaggle.

Best regards
